A visit to mountain villages

Visit the area of Beaufortain with his authentic mountain villages and the beautiful Lake de Roselend, and enjoy the numerous and various beautiful views.


From L’Horizon des Alpes you drive, via La Clusaz, to Col des Aravis. Col des Aravis is also well-known for the Tour de France. Nearly every year the Col des Aravis is part of the course of the Tour de France. On the Col des Aravis you will have beautiful views. It is a nice place to make a stop and also to visit the trout pond.


After Col des Aravis you drive direction Flumet. Flumet is a little village at a height of 940 m.

You continue your trip, via Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, direction Les Saisies. This village is situated at a height of 1,650 m. Here you will find, on a height of 1,941 m, the Mont Bisanne. On the Mont Bisanne an unique 360 degree panorama of the Val d’Arly, Les Aravis, Le Beaufortain, and the Mont-Blanc chain awaits you.

After Les Saisies you will find Beaufort on your way. According to a lot of people the most delicious cheese from France is made in this village, so if you like cheese you can make a stop here to find out if these people are right.

After Beaufort you drive direction Arêches. Arêches is situated at a height of 1,080 m, in the center of Beaufortain.

Then you drive, via Boudin, to the Lake of Roselend. This beautiful lake is the biggest of the area. You drive along the lake to take, by another way, again direction Beaufort.

You continue your way direction Villard-sur-Doron. Villard-sur-Doron is a traditional mountain village, situated in the valley of Beaufortain. It has about 650 inhabitants, who are making their living principally out of cattle breeding.

After Villard-sur-Doron you take direction Queige. This little village didn’t loose any of his authenticity and kindness. The inhabitants here are still living in the tradition of the mountain population.

Then you drive, along the Gorges de L’Arly, direction Flumet. Here you will find the same road as where you started your trip.

After Flumet you will find again Col des Aravis and La Clusaz on your way, after which you take direction Le Petit Bornand, where you will find your hotel L’Horizon des Alpes.
