A visit to Italy

Visit different authentic mountain villages, taste the different cultures which you will find on your way and enjoy the numerous and various views. Also due to the various heights of the landscape you cross, the environment changes every time and with this also the flowers and animals.


From L’Horizon des Alpes you drive, via Bonneville, direction Chamonix. Chamonix is situated at the foot of the Mont Blanc (see also Daytrip Mont Blanc). You keep on following direction Chamonix till you see direction Turin. By following direction Turin you will find the Mont-Blanc-tunnel. This tunnel, opened in 1965, connects the valley of Chamonix in France with the valley of Aoste in Italy. This tunnel is 11,6 km long, the longest in Europe.

Just before you drive into the Mont-Blanc-tunnel you can make a short stop to enjoy the beauty of the Glacier des Bossons.

The first Italian village you will find on your way is Courmayeur, an old village with narrow alleys and lot of restaurants with terraces and shops. This is a nice place to visit and a good place to have your lunch or a cup of coffee.

You continue your trip direction Col du Petit St. Bernardo. On the Col du Petit St. Bernardo you are at a height of 2.188 m. Here you will find the border between Italy and France.

The next village on your trip is called La Rosière. La Rosière is a small mountain village. It is situated at a height of 1.850 m and it has about 600 inhabitants.

After La Rosière you will find Beaufort on your way. According to a lot of people the most delicious cheese from France is made in this village, so if you like cheese you can make a stop here to find out if these people are right.

Then you drive direction Les Saisies. This village is situated at a height of 1.650 m. Here you will find, on a height of 1.941 m, the Mont Bisanne. On the Mont Bisanne a unique 360 degree panorama of the Val d’Arly, Les Aravis, Le Beaufortain, and the Mont-Blanc chain awaits you.

After Les Saisies you take direction Flumet. Flumet is a little village at a height of 940 m. From Flumet you go direction Col des Aravis and La Clusaz.

Col des Aravis is also well-known for the Tour de France. Nearly every year the Col des Aravis is part of the course of the Tour de France. On the Col des Aravis you will have beautiful views.

From the Col des Aravis you drive direction La Clusaz, after which you take direction Le Petit Bornand, where you will find your hotel L’Horizon des Alpes.
