Lake Geneva (Lac Léman)

Lake Geneva is with a surface of 58.200 ha the biggest lake of Europe. It is situated on the border of France-Switzerland, so on one side of the shore you are in France and on the other side you are in Switzerland.

The best way to visit Lake Geneva is by visiting the beautiful cities Evian-les-Bains or Thonon-les-Bains, or the medieval village Yvoire. These three places are situated not far away from each other, at the Lake Geneva shore on french territory. So you also can decide to visit them all three at the same day.

Evian-les-Bains
Evian-les-Bains is a pleasant and lively city and there are a lot of shops, restaurants, bars and terraces. This city, situated in beautiful surroundings, is built at the edge of the lake standing against the massif of the Alps.

Along the lake shore there is a 3 km pedestrian walkway where you can take a stroll.

In the port of Evian-les-Bains there are ferryboats which can take you around the lake or just to the other side where you can visit some cities (Lausanne, Montreaux, etc).

Thonon-les-Bains
Thonon-les-Bains is built in two levels. In the lower part you find the port, the beach, the promenade along the Lake shore and the old village Rives.
In the upper part you find the centre of the city with his shopping-promenades. Three times a week there is a big market (monday and thursday morning, at Place du Marché, and saturday morning, at Place Vongy, from 7h30 tot 13h).

Yvoire
Yvoire is a medieval village situated at Lake Geneva. Important evidence of the past has been miraculously preserved : the castle, ramparts and fortified gateways, ditches and houses. The church of St. Pancras probably dates from the eleventh century. Also the port of Yvoire still exists. When you walk through the gateways of Yvoire you walk into the Middle Ages.

All of you who love cruises and relaxation, come and enjoy messing about in boats in the heart of the mountains of Savoy. Sail on the magnificient steamers and paddle-steamers of the C.G.N. Let yourself be carried away and discover the French and Swiss lakeside towns and villages.
