The Mont Blanc
The Mont-Blanc is, with his 4.810 m, the highest moutain of Europe. At the foot of the
Mont-Blanc is situated the village
of Chamonix. Chamonix is a beautiful and pleasant village with canals, shopping-streets, retaurants and pubs. From
Chamonix you can survey the Mont-Blanc by cablecar or by railway.
By cablecar
From the center of Chamonix the Aiguille du Midi cablecar carries you to 3.842m
into the realm of high mountainpeaks. A unique 360 degree panorama of the Mont-Blanc chain awaits you.
By railway
Departing from Chamonix, the famous rack and pinion railway brings you to the Montenvers site at 1.913 m. An imposing
panorama of the Mer de Glace, the Drus and the Grandes Jorasses.
Activities:
- The Ice Cave takes you into the heart of the glacier : carved every year,
the ice sculptures illustrate scenes from alpine life in the early 19th century. Accessible by cablecar and in the
summer also accessable by a path, about 20 minutes walk.
- The crystal gallery exhibits an impressive collection of rocks from the Mont-Blanc massif.
- Museum of Alpine Fauna.
